TESTIMONIAL

Felipe Barreto, 29, luxury retail shop assistant

The reason I finally decided laser hair removal was the best option for me was I don't like shaving and my skin is very sensitive, especially around my neck where it always gets very irritated either by the growing hair or by shaving it. So I didn’t want to have the need of shaving it all the time, nor the itchiness of the growing hair when I don’t shave.

On my neck I never tried anything to remove the hair to be honest. I had heard about waxing your beard off. But I never thought about doing it, because it sounds so painful and apparently it can even bleed. But on my body I have tried hair removal cream, it stinks and the hair comes back quickly so I guessed it isn’t worth it.

In the past I have been to salons and had facials but never to a aesthetic clinic like Skin Health Spa. Something had to be done about my irritating beard growth on my neck so I took the plunge after reading so many good things about laser hair removal.

The laser treatment feels like someone is pinching you or like when a rubber band snaps to the skin. But its bearable and it quickly diminishes upon completion. Afterwards my neck was quite red and sensitive but the redness lasted for only a few hours. I used some aloe vera gel after the treatment and I always wore sun protection cream while avoiding the sun during the treatments.

I could really see the difference from the first treatment. My hair started to get thinner and thinner. After the third or fourth treatment I could see patches where no hair was growing anymore, and from shaving every other day I started to shave two days a week then pretty much once a week, and the shaving was so easy.

So far I have had six treatments each a month apart and because my hair is very dark and thick, I need to have a few more final treatments. The six treatments so far have already made a difference and the hair is not as thick but I do need to carry on with a couple of final treatments.

Once I have completed my neck, I might get my upper back done too.

ABOUT LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Laser hair removal works by using a laser light, which generates heat to damage or destroy the hair follicles. The process is painless and very effective, and takes less than an hour per visit. It is used across the world by both men and women. Almost all hair types can be removed, although we always carry out a "patch test" to ensure you do not suffer any adverse reactions.

Hair can be removed from all parts of the body, including arms, legs, face, bikini line, back and chest. Laser hair removal can help you enjoy smooth skin all day, every day and eliminates the need for shaving and waxing once and for all.

SO HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

The light passes through the outer layers of skin and is selectively absorbed by the melanin pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively disables the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells.

It is important to note that lasers are effective in removing hairs, which are in the growing (Anagen) phase. Follicles in the second phase (Categen), and third phase (Telagen), will not be affected since the dermal papilla, or root, of the follicle is not yet attached to the follicle itself. Due to the hair growth cycle, additional treatments will be required once the dormant hairs reach the Anagen phase.

HOW MANY LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS WOULD I NEED?

The number of treatments vary depending on a multiple of factors: the thickness of the hair; the area being treated; and your hair growth cycle. Most clients usually require a minimum course of 5 treatments. To ensure hair in each stage of the growth cycle are disabled there tends to be a five to eight week interval between each course of treatment. During your Free Consultation, our qualified medical aestheticians will assess your requirements and indicate how many treatments will be needed.

WILL THE LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT HURT?
Laser hair removal is predominantly painless. The procedure is safe, fast and effective. Mild redness may occur on the treated area but this will only last for a short period.
