Hair loss is a concern for many men and women – whether it is genetic, stress induced or a medical condition. But with advances in the field and adequate research, various new techniques have cropped up in the market which can combat the condition with ease.

The procedure, named Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy (PRP), is being used on the scalp as it can stimulate dormant hair follicles and encourage them to start growing again.

What is PRP?

PRP therapy, also known as Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy is the same as vampire facelift which is done on the face to help reduce lines, wrinkles and acne scars and also helps build collagen. The treament has now been developed to stimulate growth in thinning hair to thicken and stregthen before baldness accurs.

The procedure, which takes about an hour and a half, involves drawing a small amount of blood and centrifuging it so that the plasma with platelets collects in the tube. This plasma rich in platelets and growth factors is very useful in tissue regeneration and healing.  It is then injected on the scalp or rubbed on the scalp after performing a dermaroller treatment in the areas which suffer from hair loss.

The optimum results can be seen at three months. At this stage it is decided whether a second treatment is required or not.
