Stoptober - Healthier Looking Skin In No Time

29/07/2015

Its a well know fact that smoking can accelerate the ageing process in the skin. Since the 1970's studies have shown that smoking results in more premature facial wrinkling than sun exposure. Lines around the eyes called “crow's feet” can develop at an earlier age. Multiple vertical lines around the mouth also occur and are called “smoker's lines”. These effects continue into old age. By the age of 70 years, smoking 30 cigarettes a day could lead to the equivalent of an extra 14 years of skin ageing.

Ageing of the skin means that it develops uneven skin colouring and broken blood vessels. Smokers can appear gaunt and develop an orange or grey complexion. October is Stoptober (national stop smoking month) so nows as good a time as any to knock the habit on the head.

No smoking, We can’t say it enough. It’s an absolute no no where good skin is concerned. If two people started out with the same DNA and one smoked and the other didn’t, experts predict that there would be a dramatic difference in their skin after just a few years of picking up the habit. The damage would show itself in more fine lines, deeper wrinkles and mottled skin.

The quickest way to healthier looking skin this October is to quit smoking once and for all. Stop smoking for 28 days and you’re 5 times more likely to stop for good. There are lots of free support tools from apps to packs and you can join the Stoptober challenge via the governments support website: https://stoptober.smokefree.nhs.uk/registration-c
