Eye Openers To Put The Sparkle Back

The eyes are often the first part of our complexion to reveal of our secrets. From dark circles due to accumulated late nights out or those fine lines and crow's feet that give away our true age, it's no surprise that this delicate area is regularly at the top of our clients list when it comes to skin concerns.  Even if you dutifully apply daily moisturisers and night creams, due to its fragile nature, the skin around the eyes requires its own dose of special care and attention.

Skin in the eye area is 10 times thinner than on any other part of the face and as a result ages 30% faster than the skin on other parts of the face meaning fine lines and wrinkles are pronounced and we can suffer from puffiness and sagging. As years go by this thinness is only exacerbated as natural collagen levels fall. Because the skin is so delicate, a daily dab of moisturiser applied in a rush is often not intensive or gentle enough to deal with eye concerns.

We know dark circles can be hereditary, but they can also be caused by stress, sleeplessness and a build-up of toxins which intensifies as we age. To achieve younger-looking eyes, we must look for treatments and products that lift and firm the eye contour, illuminate and refresh while reducing the the appearance of puffiness, lines and wrinkles.

In order to treat the eye area successfully we must look at what ingredients are proving effective for tackling such common complaints. Active ingredients like vitamins, botanicals, peptides and SPF's are great for minimising sensitivity potential. The main aim is to rehydrate the eye area within the deeper layers of the skin thereby increasing dermal volume, reinforcing and smoothing the delicate skin without creating puffiness. Peptides and antioxidants are powerful allies in fighting against lines and wrinkles and work at repairing the dermal matrix.

Eye Creams

Home care is important when it comes to fresh peepers so choose a good eye cream that helps to tighten and reduce the appearance of dark circles as well as disguise lines and wrinkles. We recommend Flint + Flint Eye Hero for an instant 'lift' effect, it uses a number of active ingredients including EYESERYL®, Beautifeye™ and Gransil DMCM-5 to create an instant soft focus effect for lines and wrinkles, lift the upper eyelids and reduce puffiness.

Always apply eye products with the ring finger to respect the fine texture of the skin around the eyes. Apply from the outer to the inner corner of the eye without dragging, this will result in the eye area being cared for. Remember - less is more when it comes to applying creams to the eye area.

You can transform and revitalise tired looking eyes with a number of in clinic treatments. If the eye creams on their own just aren't working well enough or you want to speed up the results then a more intense treatment can work overnight.

Emerge Fractional Laser - this fast and effective Laser treatment uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in healthier, younger-looking skin.

Mesotherapy - Mesotherapy is a natural, minimally invasive treatment, widely used to nourish, hydrate and rejuvenate the skin, stimulating collagen and elastin production. Mesotherapy involves the micro-injection of specially prepared active ingredients, injected directly into the skin cell. It delivers vitamins into the mesoderm, or middle layer of skin, acting as a "medicinal bullet" that is delivered directly to the target area.

Tear Trough Fillers - The area between the lower eyelid and upper cheek is referred to as the 'Tear Trough'. As we age these change in appearance becoming longer, deeper and more shadowed, which can give a tired and less youthful appearance. For those that want to avoid going under the knife this tear trough treatment is the perfect solution.  It is a subtle treatment but one that makes all the difference.

Dermal filler is micro-injected along the line of the hollow of the tear troughs for a soft and natural correction.  The area is then gently massaged to ensure even distribution of the product. The results are instant and last between six and 12 months.  Various factors contribute to this formation and the nurse may suggest combination of treatments that include strengthening the upper cheek to support the area as well as treating the Tear Trough itself for the best cosmetic result.
