Facial Treatment Preferences
A recent survey found that younger women are more likely to seek a treatment for the upper face, whilst older women prioritise lower face. Research published in Dermatologic Surgery reveal that while younger women seek aesthetic treatments to retain a youthful appearance, older women lean towards treatments to reverse the signs of ageing - such as facial lines. folds and loss of volume.
A total of 603 women between the ages of 30 and 65 years old considering aesthetic treatments participated in an online survey. The survey revealed that crow's feet are most likely to be treated first (82% of the first preferences), followed by the junction of the upper / lower lips (74%) and tear troughs / eye bags (72%).
There was a strong pattern between the facial areas creating the most concern and the likelihood that they would be the first preference of treatment would be in that area. One exception to this was the tear trough area which rated highly on the participants list of skin concerns (almost as much as crow's feet) but they were less likely to pick an aesthetic treatment for that area. This got us thinking as to why? Perhaps the public are more aware of Botox to treat crow's feet with all its press coverage over the years than they are of dermal fillers to treat hollows under the eyes or tear troughs.
Our injectors love educating our clients on the large variety of treatments available these days, technologies and techniques are advancing all time time resulting treatments for a more natural result. Skin concerns or ageing concerns are often linked and its unlikely that one treatment will fix all, for example Botox can reduce the appearance of crow's feet but the eyes will still look aged and tired if they are sunken tear troughs where the collagen is breaking down. Often the best results are achieved through a series of treatments designed specifically for the individual.
One of the most reassuring findings from the survey is that women did not seem to undergo treatment to attract a partner but rather that they did it for their own piece of mind and to achieve personal satisfaction! That's what we like to hear ladies!
What do you think of these findings? are you more concerned and likely to go for treatment for folds and lines in the lower face when you are older? or do you still worry about rejuvenation of the upper face and eyes as much as you did when you were younger?
