Treating Scars

Scars come in a variety of shapes, sizes and severity and can mark a physical or psychological burden on our clients. Scars are unfotunately a permanent condition and although we can never bring the skin back to how it was before the scar was there we can improve the texture of the skin and reduce their appearance significantly.

A scar mark is the mark of a wound that has healed, where following a break in the body's tissues, collagen is produced to allow it to build up over the damaged area abd heal it. Scars can be caused by an injury to the skin, or develop as a consequence from certain skin conditions such as Acne. We treat a variety of scars that range from scars caused by accidents to stetch marks.

In order to determine how to treat the scar we must consider a number of factors such as how the skin reacted to the wound, how long the client has had the scar and how it healed. It is also important to understand the effect is has on the clients life and what has brought them to come for treatment, recent reseach has shown that one in two women suffer on-going distress from stretch marks and scarring and this has a big impact on the clients needs and expectations.

We have a number of treatments available to improve the appearance of scars, including:

A derma roller is a hand-held device that has hundreds of tiny surgical steel micro-needles, which are able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. This enables your skin to significantly better absorb rejuvenating and collagen-boosting product into the lower dermis through the pin-point punctures in the dermis. It tricks the skin into thinking its damaged, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin and helps prevent or reverse the formation of the scars.

Fractional Laser

Fractional skin resurfacing with the Palomar Emerge Laser uses laser energy microbeams to create areas of affected tissue that extend through the epidermis into the dermis. The body’s natural healing process creates new, healthy tissue to replace the areas of affected tissue, resulting in an improvement in the formation of scars as well as imporve the overall condition and tone of the skin.

In some cases we would recommend a combination of both treatments and even follow up with a course of facial resurfacers or skin peels to get the best results for our clients. We also like to recommend a number of home use products that can help improve the overall condition of the skin and even out skin tone.
